Artist’s Statement
My artwork reflects scenes that have captivated and enchanted me, particularly cherished memories of joyful moment’s at the water’s edge. Although I didn’t grow up around water, I now consider myself fortunate to live just steps away from a lake. Throughout the years, I’ve marveled at the many personalities, colors and textures that the water embodies. The same space can evoke a range of emotions, from sheer delight to melancholy, fear or serenity. The colors change between deep, dark and moody tones to shimmering gold, frothy hues of dancing light.
When I approach a painting, I don’t have a predetermined vision of its final form. Instead I use a combination of transparent and opaque layers of encaustic paint and other media. The color palettes, textures and layers emerge, evolve and sometimes hide, becoming part of the painting’s visual narrative. Working with encaustic is a true collaboration between the artist and the medium. We work in harmony and I make decisions based on our collective exploration, responding to the path we make together.
